Hygiene Guidelines
Disclaimer: We’d rather you use too many sets of gloves for hygiene reasons than putting anyone at any risk. We know some people are told to use as few as possible in studios due to high costs. This is not a thing here.
Please note that it is mandatory in The Netherlands to remove your rings, armbands/bracelets and watch while working, as a tattoo artist.
Set up
● Wash hands with Podigeen soap.
- Do not disinfect your hands with alcohol after washing, this might damage your skin.
- Washing with Podigeen soap to remove dirt and other potential contamination.
● Put on gloves
● Cover the Trolley with foil
- Spray alcohol on the trolley
- Cover the foil overlapping, also cover the front, back and sides.
- Make sure you can still open the drawer, when you’ve taken everything out of the drawer, cover the drawer with foil.
● Prepare items on the foil
- Grip cover for machine
- Grip tape
- 4 cover bags: 1x bottle of soap spray|1x power supply|1x lamp|1x chair handle
- 2 clip cord sleeves (blue)
- Spatula
- Ink cups (one too many is better than one too few)
- Vaseline sachet
- Prepare pieces of tape on the side of the trolley
- Place your machine
● Prepare items for tattooing
- Wrap all of the items on your station
- Prepare plenty of tattoo wipes
- In case of need: a cup of water
- Push Vaseline out of the sachet onto the foil
- ‘Glue’ spatula onto foil with Vaseline
- ‘Glue’ ink cups onto a spatula with Vaseline
● Prepare chair and placement
- Use general cleaner (allesreiniger) on the chair and add foil on places that are easy to contaminate
- Foil or bag around the chair handle
- Use the general cleaner on arm rest and add foil
- Connect the foot switch and place it where needed.
- Place chair properly
- Connect the power supply
● Take gloves off and throw them in the bin
Stencilling
● Have your design ready on transfer paper
● Either disinfect or wash hands
● Put gloves on
● Prepare the stencil area for applying the stencil
- Clean the stencil area with alcohol
- Place a dental bib
- Place paper towels, razor, stencil stuff and sterillium and your design on the dental bib
● Apply the stencil on the client
- Disinfect the clients skin with a paper towel and Sterillium
- Put the paper towel in the bin
- Shave client
- Throw razor in designated razor bin
- Disinfect the clients skin with a paper towel and Sterillium
- Put the paper towel in the bin
- Apply Stencil stuff with your hand on the skin, do not apply too much
- Apply stencil, pat it on don’t rub
● Take gloves off and throw them in the bin
● Either disinfect or wash hands
● Put gloves on
● Clear the stencil station
- Clean the Sterillium dispenser and put back
- Clean the stencil stuff dispenser and put back
- Throw away all other material (Left over paper towels, dental bib etc).
- Clean stencil station with alcohol
● Take gloves off and throw them in the bin
Start tattooing
● Wash hands (and arms) with Podigeen soap
● Put gloves on
● Before you start:
- Have the client take a seat
- Take an ink bottle and fill the cup (client present)
- Place the ink bottle back at the storage spot or at the back side of the bottom shelf of the trolley
- Gather needles and place them on the trolley (client present)
● Take gloves off and throw them in the bin
● Either disinfect with Sterilium or wash hands with Podigeen soap
● Put on gloves
● Start tattooing
● Need to grab something that is not in the ‘dirty’ area of your station?
- Remove gloves
- Wash or disinfect hands and put on fresh gloves
● Tattoo done
● Take gloves off and throw them in the bin
● Wash your hands (and arms) with Podigeen soap
● Put gloves on
- Clean the tattoo area with soap
- Cover the tattoo with second skin or foil
● Take gloves off and throw them in the bin
● Either disinfect with Sterilium or wash hands with Podigeen soap
Tidying up and clean up
● Either disinfect with Sterilium or wash hands with Podigeen soap
● Put gloves on
● Clean from ‘clean to dirty’ and ‘high to low’
- Throw away the needles in the designated bins, clean your hands and change gloves after.
- Unwrap the soap bottle, remove the bag with one hand (keep the other hand clean and do not touch anything else)
- Unwrap the power supply, remove the bag with one hand (keep the other hand clean and do not touch anything else)
- Unwrap the lamp, remove the tape and bag with one hand (keep the other hand clean and do not touch anything else)
- Remove foil from the lamp
- Remove plastic from chair with one hand (keep the other hand clean and do not touch anything else)
- Remove grip from machine
- Remove tape from the machine
- Remove all other coverings from the machine
- Place the machine on a chair or in the back of the bottom shelf of the trolley
- Remove clip cord bag, place the cord on the chair
- Calmly gather foil en wrap items to throw in the bin
● Take gloves off and throw them in the bin
● Either disinfect with Sterilium or wash hands with Podigeen soap
● Put gloves on
● Clean from ‘clean to dirty’ and ‘high to low’
- Clean power supply with tissue and general cleaner (allesreiniger), alchohol or oxywipes
- Clean the lamp with tissue and general cleaner (allesreiniger), alchohol or oxywipes
- Disconnect the machine and disassemble if needed
- Clean machine supply with oxywipes
- Hold the machine with oxywipes and place back in storage
- Clean cord well with oxywipes
- Clean soap bottle with tissue and general cleaner (allesreiniger), alcohol or oxywipes
- If needed place the tube in an alcohol bath to soak
● Take gloves off and throw them in the bin
● Either disinfect or wash hands
● Put gloves on
● Clean chair and chair area with general cleaner
- If needed, grab the pillow between elbows and put it aside (do not touch anything with gloves). After finishing all the following steps, place the pillow cover in the washbasket.
- Clean the chair with tissue and general cleaner (allesreiniger) or oxywipes. Preferably spray the general cleaner onto the tissue instead of directly onto the chair.
- Clean the armrest with tissue and general cleaner (allesreiniger) or oxywipes. Preferably spray the general cleaner onto the tissue instead of directly onto the armrest.
- Clean the front, sides and top (dirty parts) of trolley with tissue and alcohol or oxywipes
- Clean the bottom of the chair, handle (dirty parts) and trolley with tissue and general cleaner (allesreiniger), alcohol or oxywipes
- Clean foot switch with tissue and general cleaner (allesreiniger), alchol or oxywipes
- Clean foot switch cable with tissue and general cleaner (allesreiniger) or oxywipes
- Clean the floor from the outside in the direction of the working area with general cleaner (allesreiniger). (Pay attention: be careful with alcohol on the floor)
- Place chair and other items compactly together
● Throw away your thrash bag & replace with a new one
● Change gloves when needed (if you see dirt or ink, or have touched something contaminated)
● Take gloves off and throw them in the bin
● Either disinfect or wash hands
